In executive session yesterday the Milam County Democratic Party executive members meet and selected Doug Kunkel as our replacement nominee for Precinct 1 Milam Count Commissioner. Doug’s name will be added to the November 4th general election ballot. The ballot position came open with the resignation of the current commissioner in precinct 1 and his request to have his name withdrawn from the November ballot. In such case the major parties are allowed to submit a replacement name on the ballot.
Doug Kunkel graduated from Rockdale High and Temple College. He served 29 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety, retiring in 2010 as major in the Criminal Investigations Division. For the past two years he has gained a wealth of knowledge in how county government operates while serving as an investigator in the Milam County & District Attorney’s office.
Doug has been married to Karen Glaser Kunkel for the past 28 years, they have two daughters and a grandson. They live in Cameron.
Doug also serves on the board of Directors for the Salem-Elm Ridge Water Supply Corporation and is an active member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Cameron.
